Los machos adultos son de vida libre, mientras que las hembras, por lo general, pasan casi toda su vida como endopar\u00e1sitas dentro de otros insectos; los grupos que act\u00faan como hu\u00e9spedes son Diptera, Blattodea, Hemiptera, Hymenoptera, Mantodea, Orthoptera y Zygentoma. Todas las especies son parasitoides entom\u00f3fagas en al menos tres de sus etapas larvales. Los machos poseen pocos omatidios (ojos simples), pero muy desarrollados, as\u00ed como antenas flabeladas (forma de abanico); las alas anteriores se encuentran reducidas, mientras que las posteriores, las cuales tienen un aspecto rugoso, est\u00e1n bien desarrolladas.
