Con 21 g\u00e9neros y 420 especies aprox., es la segunda familia de termitas m\u00e1s diversa despu\u00e9s de Termitidae. La mayor\u00eda de sus miembros son especialistas funcionales en madera sana, aunque no necesariamente madera seca. Por lo tanto, si bien no todos los taxones de Kalotermitidae se denominan com\u00fanmente \u00abtermitas de la madera seca\u00bb, el nombre se usa com\u00fanmente para referirse a la familia en s\u00ed. La familia incluye taxones plaga notables como <em>Cryptotermes brevis<\/em> e <em>Incisitermes minor<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2014<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong><strong>Kalotermitidae<\/strong>\u00a0de Chile<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En Chile hay tres especies de termitas de la familia Kalotermitidae. La<strong> termita chilena de la madera (<em>Neotermes chilensis<\/em>)<\/strong> es end\u00e9mica y se distribuye desde la regi\u00f3n de Coquimbo hasta Ays\u00e9n, habitando en ramas secas de espino, molle, y en tallos forales de chagual, quillay y romerillo. Hoy en d\u00eda tambi\u00e9n presente en especies vegetales introducidas. La <strong>termita de Juan Fern\u00e1ndez (<em>Kalotermes gracilignathus<\/em>)<\/strong> es una especie end\u00e9mica de la isla Robinson Crusoe y <em><strong>Cryptotermes brevis<\/strong><\/em> se distribuye entre las regiones de Arica y Parinacota, Tarapac\u00e1 y Metropolitana (incluyendo Juan Fern\u00e1ndez).
